DAY 05 · Psalm 2:1–2
“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord and against his Anointed.” — Psalm 2:1–2, ESV
“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?”
When I read this, it does not give a warm hug first. It asks a big question. For three thousand years, every new generation thinks they are the first ones to successfully fight God. But really, they are just repeating the same old story.
Today, our world feels very loud. People use the internet, algorithms, and modern culture to push God away. They call it freedom, saying they do not need Him anymore. They want us believers to feel small and alone, like we are on the wrong side of time. Because the society shouts so loudly, we sometimes believe they are very strong and completely sure of themselves.
But wait! When we look at the original Hebrew words, it changes how I see everything. The word used for “rage” does not mean a strong, confident army marching. No, it means panic. It is like running crazy with no direction. It is the noise of fear. When the world fights against God the loudest, it is not because they have the real power. It is because deep inside their hearts, they already know they cannot win, but they keep running anyway.
Because of this, the Psalm says their plotting is “in vain.” God is not shouting an angry threat. He is just stating a simple fact. Their plans against Him will turn into nothing. God’s throne was never in danger.
Yes, the noise in our world is very much loud right now. I know you feel it too. But God’s throne has not moved even one centimeter. The exact same God who peacefully watched old empires fall is watching today. He is not anxious or surprised at all. The noise is loud, but His throne is completely unmoved.
